Trap/Neuter/Return (TNR)
STRAY and FERAL CATS NEED LOVE TOO!
Cat overpopulation has become a problem in almost every city and county in the United States. Lowndes county is no exception. The dilemma? What is the best way to control cat overpopulation? Trap/Neuter/Return, or TNR, has become nationally accepted as the most effective and humane way to control and maintain feral and stray cat populations.
D.A.R.E. knows TNR works and recognizes the urgent need for such a program in Lowndes County. Part of D.A.R.E.’s mission is to implement a program that will work with low cost spay/neuter providers to provide free, or reduced cost, spays/neuters (as funding permits) for stray and feral cat populations.
Funding will be provided by donations and grants. D.A.R.E. will also recruit and train volunteers to humanely trap, transport and release cats. Also, people are needed to help feed and care for these colonies.
Many of the cats in stray/feral cat colonies were once owned pets that were lost or abandoned by their owners. D.A.R.E. plans to start a stray/feral cat adoption program. There are several such cats in desperate need of homes right now.
